Bedroom number one - Lilllie's Room

The first thing I wanted to do when I moved was to start on Lillie's bedroom. I promised her that hers would be the first one to get done so she could have her bedroom back, well her new and improved bigger bedroom with the bunk beds she's been nagging more for.

The absolute first things that needed to go were that horrible carpet and that awful thick pink wallpaper - Lillie is not a princess and pink is banned from her bedroom apparently!

Only two layers on this wall..

We started with the wallpaper, a measly two layers on this one. Once it was off we realised that it had been papered for a reason - it was bumpy and cracked, without mentioning the holes in it from hundreds of screws over the years. Nothing for it really, it had to be skimmed along with the ceiling as that featured some lovely artex. And yes, those electrics had to go, but that's another post all by itself!

Yes - That say's MOO!

The next thing was to get the walls and ceiling skimmed in order to cover everything up and have a smooth, straight blank canvas.

Freshly skimmed walls and ceiling, which were done by Anthony the plasterer - He's doing the whole house as the walls and ceilings are horrible! White paint to start with so we had time to decide on a colour that Lillie liked. The bedroom will also be having new windows as the current ones are so old and manky, and there's not escape in case of a fire.

I also decided that we would have brand new radiators throughout the house as the old ones were really old, and only single. The new ones are double radiators and they look so much better, not to mention so much warmer in the winter!

In order to have new radiators, the plumber - The main man himself Mr Dai Bailey had to sort out the heating system the old owners had going on, basically lots of pipes that were too thin or old pipes we no longer needed.

As is having to do all of the above was enough, I soon found out that the electric needed rewiring in the whole house - Yup there aint no earth cable here!

That meant that the electrian has to rewire all the plugs and lights in the whole house, as well as put a new fuse board in. I guess you could say that at least we found out now and not after we'd finished redecorating the whole house.

Lillie's room still isn't finished and this little 7 year old is getting extremely impatient. To top this whole thing off we're unable to stay in the house because there's no much dust everywhere it just isn't possible - Bring on the sofa surfing for a few more weeks! Hopefully I'll be able to share with you the next part of Lillie's bedroom pretty soon.
